The Flywheel is a mechanical device that stores kinetic energy, allowing systems to run smoothly. To us, it represents the power of collaboration. Used for centuries in tools, instruments, and machines, the Flywheel reminds us of the beauty and utility of a well- crafted object.
Ben Cheney
Community and cooperation are ingrained in Ben. He has been continuously employed in the building trades, since the age of 15. He has a background in education working with both youth and adults. Ben is a native of Montpelier, VT where he continues to reside and is a member of the design review committee. He is also a member of the board of directors for his childhood summer camp, Camp Billings.
Chris Eaton
Chris runs the blacksmith studio and oversees production on the shop floor for Flywheel. With him, he brings his rich experiences as chef, trail builder, educator and student of the natural world.
Corrie Wilcox
Corrie keeps our books and makes sure our bills are paid. She also takes on some special operations office projects. She is able to do this one day a week and makes Wednesdays a gift. Like her sister, Lydia, her approach to her work is committed, efficient and beyond competent. Every day she comes to the office she brings joy and friendship combined with a work ethic that we depend on.
Ed Roden
Ed is the most observant member of Flywheel - nothing gets past him. No hair cuts, wardrobe changes, or the particulars of your lunch go unobserved. This is his love language and he brings this same level of care to all our projects. The metal shop would be lost without Ed. All special projects that require a high level of resolve happen under his watchful eye.
Euj Osoria
Euj is a source of stability and comfort. They also have winning smile, and playful and insightful disposition that make working with them easy. They work hard to make sure anything they touch is as good as it can be. Their work has a very personal quality to it. They are thoughtful, organized and prepared. Our paint and wood finishes, as well as our woodwork all benefit from their careful approach.
Jesse Cooper
Jesse’s professional background in custom cabinetry and furniture, sustainable design/build and computer design is rooted in the Visual Arts and fueled by a passion for technical problem solving.
Julian Jimenez
Julian is new and brings a much welcome background of visual art to Flywheel. He is taking to metal work well. He has an easy-going demeanor coupled with a desire to learn and an attention to detail. These are prized qualities. It will be fun to see his skills and confidence develop.
Lydia Wilcox
Lydia is a monster! She is not scared of a huge pile of steel, and will carefully and methodically transform that pile into a staircase. Lydia and the laser are an unstoppable combination. She works with a focus and a pace that is unrivaled. Her kind and constant disposition make the process of building complex things feel very achievable.
Maret Sonder
Maret is quiet, and that quietness brings a focus and dedication to their craft. They want to get it right, they want to keep learning. Woodworking speaks to them. Thick stair treads are far more complex then they appear. Maret will build 30 stair treads for a project, keeping track of every move and discrepancy, with keen eye to how to improve each time.
Natalie Hebert
Natalie is deeply organized, systematic and prepared. She takes her work very seriously. Metal work and fabrication was huge career change for her. Her courage to leave Louisiana to come to Vermont and change her whole life is inspiring. She is eager to learn new things and brings a strong desire to make an easy, well understood work flow.
Penny Harte
Penny is at the heart of all of our projects. She is part of design and site measuring, executes our shop drawings and estimating, as well as contracting. While those are her main roles, her value is really in how she does them. She is delightful to work with, and is both detail oriented and full of humor.
